{microbrewery}
Just bought a microbrewery system, and…?

I need more detailed information about how to brew the beer. I read the book, and though it all makes sense (plus I have past experience helping my brother who brews) the book is not as detailed nor answers all the questions I have. Does anyone know of any good websites to assist in the beer-making process? Also, do you know of any websites that deliver fresh beer-making ingredients (i.e. grains, hops, yeast, etc.) The only thing I can get where I am is unprocessed honey at the store. They do have the kits available, but I want to use fresh ingredients. I’d greatly appreciate any advice you could give me on this topic! Thanks!

I’ve been brewing for about 6 months now and I can say it’s very fun and rewarding! As for websites, I’ve found howtobrew.com a very good resource. I’d also the book, The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charles Papazian. It’s one of the best books on homebrewing I’ve ever read. Also, if there is a homebrew supply store anywhere near you it’s an indispensable resource. Not only can they sell you all the ingredients you need, but they can tell you what to do with them! If there’s nothing near you then for online shopping I’d recommend northernbrewer.com. I also like to frequent some online forums that deal with homebrewing. I think the best are realbeer.com and homebrewtalk.com. Check out all these great links below.

{brewery}
what are the scientific appplications of computers in a brewery?

what are computers used for in brewery or in a company?

process control. A brewery is just like any processing plant so computers are used to control valves for liquids, solids, temperature and humidity etc..

Think of it as a tasty oil refinary ( well, not quite )

as well as all the other office systems in a normal company

{home made beer}
Does traditionally home-made ginger beer contain alcohol?

The reason I ask is that a relation of mine is on medication which precludes any alcohol consumption. It would eventually make him very ill again.

I have searched the web. Some say alcoholic, some say not. Can anyone please link me to the definitive Information on this?

You need to use a hydrometer. When you mix the ingredients and start your brew, put a hydrometer in and take a reading. Water is 1.0. Your reading will probably be about 1.2 with all ingredients in. After the brewing is done take another reading.

If the reading (specific gravity) is less than your original reading there is alcohol in it. (alcohol is lighter than water, so the effect of the alcohol will be to lower the specific gravity.)

{wine making
Wine making:: i had to put my hand in the primary today to fetch a rubber piece thatbrokeoff thelid,iswineok?

this is my first time making wine, and everything i read has to be supper sanitized, by fetching that rubber piece out of the juice, did i just ruine the wine? and yes i scrubbed my hands and arms before putting them in the 8 gallon bucket.

It is a 50/50 guess. A pair of sanitized rubber gloves would be best for the next time you need to go digging through your fermenting must. It is impossible to know but you will know shortly. Don’t worry on it much*.

{moonshine still}
Is it legal to make moonshine for personal use or own a still in the state of Tennessee?

I was wanting to maybe make my own whiskey and was wondering if it was legal in Tn to do so? It would be strickley for personal use only..

It’s not legal (on a federal level, not state by state) to distill in one’s home. The letter of the law states that one cannot distill without a permit. However there are tons of hoops to jump through to get one, including having to do it somewhere OTHER than in a dwelling (i.e. where you or anybody lives).

Even so, for the sake of example, in New Zealand it *is* legal to distill at home. For people who live there, http://homedistiller.org is a handy reference.

{bottle capper}
plastic bolttle capper chuck?

Im looking for a plan to make a capping chuck or where I can find the capper chuck. I bottle mineral water. I only want an single capper to work manually.

{homebrew beer}
what is the difference between hopped and unhopped malt extract in homebrew beer?

does hopped malt extract replace hops in homebrew beer?

Hops
What is the difference between hopped and unhopped malt extract in homebrew beer?
The unhopped extracts do not contain hop/hops bitter compounds were the hopped samples do.

does hopped malt extract replace hops in homebrew beer? Yes
Basically, one does not need to add hops to the kettle boil with the hopped extracts. They give less control and a poorer example of what fresh hops can do for a beers’ flavor profile.

{home brewing kit}
Beer Home Brewing Kits vs. Buying Piece by Piece?

I am thinking about getting into beer home brewing as a hobby, would you recommend buying a starter kit or buy the equipment piece by piece and if so what kit? What pieces? And what sites would you recommend checking out?

buy all you need in one and you will have all you need without any of the pitfalls.
